Any Tom Cruise fans? Well, you would definitely be in for a delight to know that this breathtaking scene from Ghost Protocol, where your very own Mr. Cruise performed the jaw-dropping scene was filmed at none other than the ‘At The Top, Burj Khalifa’.
Excited to know more about it all the more now!? Read on…
Whenever I travel to a new city or even when I come back to my own, the best part of the flight for me is the descent. The opulence of the Dubai skyline is not something that can be appreciated through a small window and that too only for a couple of minutes before the plane touches down. The air hostess does not have to remind me to get the window shades opened. I look forward to the view of the city from the top which in my opinion is one of the best. If only I could ask the pilot to fly around for long because just when you start to enjoy the view, you reach back on the ground.
For more than just a glimpse at this exquisite view of the vibrant Dubai, each structure more elaborate than the next, you have to head to one of the most extravagant buildings in the world, the Dubai Burj Khalifa. This visionary building brought to reality with the help of Emaar is the centrepiece of Downtown Dubai.
The observation deck on the Burj Khalifa 124th floor, aptly named ‘At the Top’ offers you a panoramic view of the city through its glass walls which surround the whole floor.
You can take a 360 degree view of the city and look at the contrasting landscape with some brown and green patches with a whole lot of concrete in between. However while looking down from the glass enclosure, the experience doesn’t feel like its complete if you just can’t feel the wind on your back. And to experience just that, from the Burj khalifa 124th floor, you can climb the stairs to the beautifully decorated 125th floor which offers you the opportunity to step to the outdoor observation deck.
If you have travelled to Downtown Dubai, the few sq kms that offer everything under the sun – one of the biggest malls on earth, the largest suspended indoor aquarium, the tallest hotel to numerous Michelin Star Restaurants and another architectural marvel, the Dubai Opera – here’s your chance to catch an aerial view of all. I am looking forward to the view from top of ‘Ain Dubai’ too. I have seen it being built over past couple of years and I am excited for the world to see it too and what a date they have chosen to open it to the world – just one day before Expo 2020 Dubai. Marketing genius? Maybe.
When to visit
The perfect time to marvel at the cityscape is just when the sun is about to go down and see how the city slowly transforms as it lights up. These hours from 3:30 to 6:00 P.M are considered the prime hours for which you have to pay a premium over the usual price for the rest of the day.
Since the rush during these hours is also more than usual, it is usually recommended to book a ticket prior to your visit which can easily be done online. Open from 8 in the morning to midnight, you can buy a ticket for any of the time slots for access to The Burj Khalifa 124th Floor which provides you complimentary access to Level 125 as well.
At the very top of Burj Khalifa
There is also an opportunity to go to Level 148’s observation deck titled ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’, which is the highest observation deck in the world, but the escalation of height also leads to an exponential increase in the price of the ticket. A sumptuous 3-course meal at the rooftop is all worth the cost that comes with it. The Burj Club with the experience of ‘At the Top’ offered as a package would also be a total steal-deal for a tourist and a city-dweller on a day off from work than a trip to ‘At the Top Sky’.
Even on a stroll across the Dubai Mall, if you decide to visit ‘The Burj Khalifa At the Top’, you could walk to the ticket counter inside and then join the queue for the passage which takes you to the base of the tower as the entrance to the Burj Khalifa at the top for this visit goes through Dubai Mall. As you walk through the entranceway, the pictures and display screens around you take you on a journey through the history of the construction of the tallest building of the world, the Dubai Burj Khalifa at the top. After which you step in an elevator which takes you to Dubai Burj Khalifa 124th Floor at a blazing fast speed of 10m per second.
The Burj khalifa view from the top can be so mesmerizing that there would always feel like a corner which you have missed which is going to make you stay there for long. You cannot tire of looking at the beautiful Palm Jumeirah or the gorgeous overhead view of the fountain show in front of Dubai Mall.
As you fly out of Dubai, you might just see another detail from the small window which would beckon you back to the ‘Burj Khalifa at the top’!
